1. Major Writing Grade: Time Capsule, due 26 April 2. Unit Test Grade: A Raisin in the Sun, The Great Gatsby, and Modernism Works, due date probably 5/4 3. Where it helps the most: The Catcher in the Rye, due date probably 5/15 (the assignment will be of different levels of difficulty for the different types of assessments. Will explain in a future Zoom class for those that are still with me at this point) 4. Major Writing Grade or Unit Test Grade (whichever helps the most and only if needed as a last resort): The Ages of American Lit Paper, due date 5/18 That's it! No exam! Choose your assignment(s), and be thorough. A better grade doesn't just happen; it is earned. Welcome back! It's AMERICAN MODERNISM time!
I hope you received the email I sent on 10 April. If you did not, please email me ASAP! This is the email I will use to send you links to future Zoom classes. This week, you are working on the paper in the blog post below. I do NOT want it on the 19th as it shows in the directions. However, I do want it, with another page added, by the 26th. That will be the final paper. No last installment necessary. You will want to have most of it written this week so you can edit next week. So, MINIMUM (average B score) requirement is 5 EDITED, perfect MLA formatted pages with ONE or TWO ONLY of the following: run-ons, fanboy comma errors, introductory comma errors, spelling errors, etc. To score an A, one must rise above. A C has more than two. An A is error-free and truly a pleasure to read. I will have an editing exercise for you next week. Here are your readings for this week that need to be done by class on Thursday: 1. Review my notes "3/20 Modernism" (points 1 and 2, traits of modernism) in the first blue tab below (the blog post dated 3/13) 2. "The Real Decoy" (Interview) = https://www.thisamericanlife.org/603/once-more-with-feeling/act-two 3. "The Song of the Mud" by Borden = https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/57329/at-the-somme-the-song-of-the-mud 4. "In Another Country" by Hemingway = page 801 in orange textbook The interview is with a veteran who discusses what it is like coming home after being in war and trying to fit in again. It lasts about 20 minutes. You may want to listen twice. "The Song of the Mud" is a poem by a woman who served in WWI as a nurse. Notice the alliteration (what sounds are repeated) and the comparison that is being made, comparing the mud to ____. "In Another Country" is semi-autobiographical, so read pages 798-799 as well. Think about the traits I list in the Modernism notes as you read Hemingway's work. In class on Thursday, I will talk to you about Hemingway's "iceberg" writing, and we will discuss all the readings above. If you have questions about the readings or the writing you are also working on, have them ready! I look forward to seeing you soon! 😉
Posting quotes here. You can leave quotes, too! And replies, or even questions if you like.... 😜
REMEMBER TO READ MY NOTES ON EACH CHAPTER WHEN YOU FINISH THE CHAPTER.... TABS IN BLUE BELOW.... 3/31 MANDATORY Zoom comment (Ch.6-7) (NO EMAIL).
