Welcome to Honors Advanced Composition! This class is taught by myself and Mrs. Williams.
I can tell you that one student emailed me last week to tell me this class prepared her well for ENGL 1101.

GRADING:
Summative Grades (Tests, Major Writing, Seminars) = 50%
Formative Grades (Vocab, Quizzes, Minor Writings) = 35%
Final Exam = 15%
UNITS/READINGS/WRITINGS FIRST SEMESTER:
1. Narrative/Memoir--The Road (You will need a copy of this book)--College Essay
2. Synthesis/Social Issues--The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Schneider) OR Just Mercy (Williams)--Synthesis Paper
3. Literary Analysis--Frankenstein (You will need a copy of this book)
LATE WORK:
All unexcused late work will be docked 25% per day. To be considered on time, projects and papers are due BY THE TARDY BELL on the due date. Do not ask me to print anything. I don't care if the LC/MC/Lab is closed the morning a paper is due. Do not email me anything. I only accept hard copies of papers BY THE TARDY BELL on any due date. Don't test me on this. I close and lock my door AT THE TARDY BELL every day for every class, even for 1st period.
MAKE UP WORK:
All make ups must be completed within 4 days of your absence. You can come before school (I am here by 7:35 each day) or during your lunch period (any lunch period) or after school (I can stay until 4:30). You do not make an appointment: just show up. I keep a make up folder, so if you arrive to my room and I am out, just get your test, take it, and leave it on my desk.

5 Aug (Monday) = In class writing on The Old Man and the Sea. You need your book and your notes. I do have copies....
6 Aug (Tuesday ) = Quiz on The Old Man and the Sea; Worksheet, QAC. Vocab Books Issued (already done on 8/2).
7 Aug (Wednesday) = Writing 2 (Nothing to worry about or prepare for); spend 10 minutes finding out something about TOMATS
8 Aug (Thursday) = QAC 2, "Superman and Me"
9 Aug (Friday) = Senior Lesson Day. HW = "Elements of the Successful Essay," What makes writing good?
12 Aug M = Senior Lesson Again. Due tomorrow = worksheet on "Elements" and have your copy of The Road.
13 Aug Tu = Discuss Formula and "Superman." Study Vocab 1, Reading Day to get started in The Road. Quiz on 8/22 to page 110
14 Aug W = Writing 3 (Room 307)--Brainstorming, etc.
15 Aug Th = Vocab 1 Quiz. Survival Game. Voc 2 Assigned (Quiz will be 29 August).
16 Aug F = Good essay activity. HW = research your colleges/scholarships/common app essay topics. Have an idea on what you will be writing/which prompt you will be addressing.
19 Aug M = Discuss Essay Topics. Assignment expectations. HW = Think about your topic! Linguistic determinism.
20 Aug Tu = Writing day to start College Essay, Day 1 of 2. Laptops in my room. HW = REALLY Think about your topic!
